Agency Christmas Cards: another of the many ways in which an agency advertises itself. It’s not just for the client or other recipient, as many aim for industry-wide attention. AKQA’s ‘Microwave Choir’ showcases their creative credentials engagingly and amusingly (though it’s not totally obvious what tune is supposed to be playing).
I’m going to nail my colours to the mast, howver, by praising Leo Burnett Dublin’s ‘Rupert’. It tells a light and humorous story about the other side of Christmas, which doesn’t always have a great deal of emotional warmth attached to it (unless you’re a militant vegetarian, in which case turn your attention to today’s Metro News, p.38: If God didn’t want us to eat animals then why did he make them out of meat?).
It reminded me of the fantastic Ikea ad, encouraging that ludicrous sentimental connection with the ‘hero’ of the ad, a lamp, then using the ever-practical Swede to mock the concept.
