Pitch perfect

OK, so not perfect, as this was a Graduate training exercise, but still great fun, and still a hugely profitable exercise.

The LB graduate intake 2008 (account management, planning and creative placement teams) were divided in two and cruelly forced to pitch against their former allies.

Though our respective workloads subsequently went through the roof, and despite the rather unusual scenario of pitching against people whose computer screens you can see from your desk, paranoia, suspicion and sabotage were never more than a mischievous temptation.

The teams learnt a lot – not just about pitching for business, though a reader might spot that there hasn’t been a blog entry since we started the pitch, but about creating great work. Both teams were very pleased with their output, and rightly so. Both client, Mark Selby of the Capricorn Group, and agency (who hadn’t seen any of our work) were kind in praise of the ideas. Not only this, but we’ve discovered a foolproof pitch strategy that guarantees success: pitch against yourselves.
